Our Purpose
Organized in 2015, the Western Allegheny Historical Society seeks to generate community awareness of the local historic heritage of Oakdale Borough, Findlay Township and North Fayette Township by accepting and preserving documents and artifacts, offering educational programs, maintaining the historical display at the Western Allegheny Community Library and support the library with any historical knowledge when they receive inquiries.
Who are we?

The Township of Findlay
Once part of Moon Township and known as "Second Moon", it was incorporated in 1822 and named after Governor William Findlay.

Township of North Fayette
Once known as Fayette after General LaFayette became four entities (N. Fayette/S. Fayette/Robinson and Colliers). Fayette was separated and North Fayette was incorporated in 1846.

The Borough of Oakdale
Originally part of a tract granted to Judge Hugh Henry Brackenridge in 1778 and was known as Mt. Helicon. It was incorporated in 1892 and renamed Oakdale, a town surrounded by impressive oaks on the hillsides.
